Thomas John Goeken, 82 of West Point died October 27, 2004 at Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer. Tom was born November 15, 1921 at West Point to Henry and Catherine Maly Goeken and attended Guardian Angels Catholic School. He served in the U. S. Army from September 21, 1944 until October 9, 1946. In 1948 at Ewing, he married Lillian Venteicher. The couple lived in Omaha where Tom was a mechanic and involved in real estate. He returned to West Point in 1959 where he operated Tom’s Tavern, was a salesman for Schaeffer Oil, did custom combining, sold vacuum cleaners and operated Tom’s Repair. Tom enjoyed traveling and loved to play Sheep Head with his friends. Tom was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the V. F. W. Survivors include daughters Sharon Goeken and Jan Goeken of West Point, Carol and husband Roger Oberle of Elkhorn, and Nadine and husband Michael Hoeppner of Omaha, son Dennis and wife Sue of West Point, former wife Lillian Wittler of Norfolk, sisters Sr. Adele Goeken, Jenny Gerken, Caroline Heywood, and Maggie Seeman, brothers Ben and Jerome, grandchildren Jason and wife Kelli Slagle, Amy and husband Craig Johnson, Jennifer and Angela Wortman, Amber Oberle, Sara and Micah Hoeppner, great grandchildren Cole and Kayla Johnson. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Sr. Frances Goeken, brothers Wenzel & Andrew, and grandson Shane. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Gerald Gonderinger as celebrant. Wake services will be 7:00 Thursday at Stokely Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be 10:00 am. until 8:30 pm. Thursday at Stokely Funeral Home.
