Reverend Godfrey Meiergerd, 89, of West Point died January 31, 2005 at the West Point Living Center. Wake services with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be 7:00 pm. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Bishop Elden Francis Curtiss as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery at Aloys. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 3:00 pm. at Stokely Funeral Home. Those wishing to leave on line condolences may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Stokely Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements. Father Meiergerd was born July 5, 1915 on the family farm west of Aloys to Edward, Sr. and Anna Praest Meiergerd. He grew up in the Aloys community and attended schools at St. Aloysius Catholic School. He attended St. Lawrence Seminary at Mount Calvary, WI and Kenrick Seminary at St. Louis. He was ordained to the Roman Catholic Priesthood in 1942. During his career he served as associate pastor at St. Mary’s in West Point, and as Pastor at St. James in Wynot, Lindsey Holy Family, West Point St. Mary’s, St. Lawrence in Scribner and Rose of Lima in Hooper. He retired to Mariana and later to St. Joseph’s retirement Community in West Point. Father Meiergerd was a 4th degree member of Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his sister Ludovica (Richard) Baumert of West Point, brothers Aloysius (Ornitha) and Edward, Jr., both of Dodge, and Ray of West Point, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.
