He married his high school sweetheart Deb Pottebaum on September 26, 1981, and with this union they had two sons, Jeff and Bob. Lyle’s greatest joy was his grandson, Jaxon. Being a mechanic proved to be both a hobby and a job for Lyle as he was often found working on cars.

For 34 years he served on the West Point Volunteer Fire Department where he was elected Assistant Fire Chief and then Fire Chief . He also was a Boy Scout Leader and a member of the Sportsman’s Club. He loved spending his weekends camping, hunting, and fishing. Going on vacation to Montana was something he always looked forward to. Sitting in his recliner in his shop and watching his dog Chloe chase tree squirrels was both entertaining and relaxing for him.
