Edward Herman Meiergerd, Jr., 80 of rural Wisner, died April 1, 2006 at Park View Home in Dodge. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am. Tuesday ay St. Aloysius Catholic Church at Aloys with Reverend Mark McKercher as celebrant. Public Wake Service with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be 7:00 pm. Monday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery with military honors graveside. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 3:00 pm. Monday at Stokely Funeral Home and continue at the Church. Memorials may be made to Central Catholic or Guardian Angels Endowments. Those wishing to leave on line condolences may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Edward was born June 11, 1925 on the family farm west of Aloys to Edward, Sr. and Anna Praest Meiergerd. He attended St. Aloysius Catholic School. Edward served in the US Army from February, 1945 until December, 1946. On January 4, 1956, he married Coletta Ulrich at Monterey. The couple farmed northwest of Aloys. Coletta died in March of 1970. Edward continued raising his family on the farm. In 1998, He retired to St. Joseph’s Home in West Point, moving to Parkview Home in Dodge in 1999. Edward was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, where he sang in the choir, Knights of Columbus, Veteran of Foreign Wars, served on the Dodge Coop Board and Central Catholic School Board. He enjoyed playing cards, picnics and bowling, but his passion was spending time with his family. Survivors include daughters Joann (William) Kreikemeier, Diane (Mark) Evert, and Judy (James) Perry all of West Point, Eileen (John) Chekal of Omaha and Karen (Jerome) Baumert of Howells, sons David of Lincoln, Gerald (Karen) of Dodge and Ralph (Mindy) of Wisner, 18 grandchildren, sister Ludovica (Richard) Baumert of West Point, brother Ray Meiergerd of West Point and a sister in law Ornitha Meiergerd of Dodge. He is preceded in death by his wife, Coletta, parents, brothers Reverend Godfrey Meiergerd and Aloysius “Alex” Meiergerd.
