Walter Byron Kindschuh, 94, of West Point, died May 29, 2006 at Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer. Memorial Services will be 10:30 am. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point with Reverend Carl Kramer officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery with Military Honors Graveside. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 6:00 pm. Wednesday with family receiving friends 4:00 until 6:00 pm. at the funeral home. Those wishing to leave on line condolences may so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Walter was born August 9, 1911 in Burt County near Uehling to John F. and Gertrude Olthoff Kindschuh. He attended School District #8 on the county line. On August 16, 1938 he married Josephine “Jokie” Kudlac at the Grace Lutheran Parsonage. He was co-founder, along with his brother Johnny, of Kindschuh Oil in 1939. Walter served as a Gunner in the U. S. Navy on a Merchant Marine Ship from May of 1944 until November of 1945. In 1949, Kindschuh Cabins were established. Walter retired in 1980 and he and Jokie moved to Colonial Haven at Beemer in December of 2005. Walter was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, VFW and the West Point Sportsman Club. He was an avid fisherman and loved camping. Survivors include his wife, Josephine, of West Point, daughters Janet (Ray) Sellentin of West Point and Karen (Jake) Jahnke of Emerson, Iowa, sisters Gertrude Butler of Beemer and Minnie Pihlgren of Georgetown, Texas, grandchildren Kelly Knievel, Terri Crist, Jason Jahnke and Sean Jahnke, great grandchildren Brian, Tyler and Kevin Knievel, Gage Jahnke, lucas Haley, Emma and Logan Jahnke. He is preceded in death by a great granddaughter Jamie Rae Knievel, brothers Carl, Henry, Elmer, Martin and John, and sisters Lucille Reimers and Mabel Rasmus.
