Vlasta Rose Konsel, 98, of Howells, died January 22, 2008 at Parkview Nursing Home in Dodge. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am. Saturday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Howells with Reverend Leo Rigatuso as celebrant. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery. Altar Society Rosary will be 3:00 pm. Friday and Public Wake will be 7:00 pm. Friday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Howells. Memorials may be made to Howells Community Catholic School or to the Church. Those wishing to leave on line condolences may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Stokely Funeral Home in Dodge is in charge of arrangements. Vlasta was born March 27, 1909 on the family farm south of Howells in Colfax County to Francis “Frank” and Emma Evert Dlouhy. She was baptized at the Catholic Church at Huen and attended country school. She worked for area families before her marriage. On November 6, 1928, Vlasta married John J. Konsel at St. John’s Catholic Church in Howells. The couple lived in Howells before moving to the farm north of Howells in the early 1930’s. Vlasta was an active farm wife who enjoyed her garden and roses. They retired into Howells in 1970. Vlasta moved to Parkview in June of 2001. Vlasta was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and Altar Society. She played cards and worked puzzles, embroidered and baked wonderful Kolaches. Survivors include daughter Darlene Pieper of Fremont, sons John F. (Jeanette) of Howells and Allyn (Ellen) of Dodge, sister Alma White of Fremont, 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband, John, in July of 1981, son in law Elmer Pieper, great grandson Michael Konsel, brother Frank and sisters Stella Schulte and Ema Pekarek.
