Vivien P. Christiansen, 92 of Pender, died May 12, 2008 at the Pender Care Center. Services will be 10:30 am. Wednesday at United Church of Pender with Reverend Neal Allen officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery at Walthill. Visitation will be 3:00 pm. until 8:00 pm. Tuesday with family present 6:00 pm. until 8:00 pm. at the church in Pender. Memorials may be made to the Church. Those wishing to leave on line condolences may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Stokely Funeral Home in West Point is in charge of arrangements. Vivien was born May 26, 1915 near Lake Park, Iowa to Carl M. and Hannah A. Jones Johnson. The family moved to Holt County, Nebraska, then to Hastings, Minnesota and Fremont, Nebraska before settling at Walthill. Vivien graduated Valedictorian of the class of 1932 from Walthill high school and received her teaching degree from Wayne State College. Vivien then taught country school near Rosalie. On June 6, 1940 she married Oscar Christiansen at Silver Creek, NE. The couple farmed in north east Thurston County before moving north east of Pender. Vivien raised a large family and was Oscar’s partner in the faming business. She retired into Pender in 1982. Vivien was member of United Church of Pender, and formerly the First Methodist Church in Pender for over 60 years. She was very active in the church, serving as district representative, served on the church board, wrote the monthly newsletter, and was active with the women’s group and prayer groups. She was active in the Pender Women’s Club, assisting with their annual art show. Vivien was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She collected tea pots, was an avid reader, and loved her roses. Survivors include daughters Marjorie (George) Johnson and Jean (Charles “Chip”) Warren both of Omaha, Mary Frances (Harry) Tilley of Lincoln and Helen (Ted) Olson of Atkinson, sons, Arthur (Mary) of Lincoln, Paul (BrendaLee) and Dale (Bonnie) both of Pender, sister Carol Starkjohann of Fremont, brother Mark (Lana) Johnson of Phoenix, 22 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Oscar in April of 1979, infant son, Carroll in October of 1947, brother Verlin Johnson and infant brother Forrest.
