Virgil H. Bettenhausen, 87, retired West Point area farmer, died March 27, 2010 at Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer. Funeral services will be 10:30 am. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in West Point with Reverend Richard Bringewatt officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 8:00 pm. Tuesday at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran School or the donor’s choice. Virgil was born February 13, 1923 on the family farm north east of West Point in Cuming County to Henry C. and Augusta Abendroth Bettenhausen. He attended Zion Lutheran School, rural Bancroft. On June 12, 1944, Virgil married Dora Madsen at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hooper. The couple farmed, north east of West Point. Dora died in 1991. On April 2, 1992, Virgil married LaVerna Predoehl Siemers at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender. The couple lived on the Virgil’s farm before moving to St. Joseph’s Retirement Community in West Point in 2005, then to Colonial Haven in Beemer in 2008. Virgil was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in West Point. Virgil loved piloting his small air plane and enjoyed traveling. Survivors include his wife, LaVerna, resident of Colonial Haven at Beemer, children Roger (Marilyn) of Columbus, Ruth (Jim) Adams of Janesville, WI, Lois (LaVern) Pfeiffer of Scribner, Clark , and Bryan (Sheri) both of West Point, sisters Marlys (Jim) Schroeder and Betty Bettenhausen both of West Point and Eunice (Gene) Kurz of Oakland, 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, step sons Lanny (Barbara) Siemers of Rockford , IL and Gayle (Helen) Siemers of Polson, MT. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Dora in 1991, son Leon in 1969, a great granddaughter, 3 infant brothers and his parents.
