Violet G. Baumert, 96, of West Point died Thursday, April 5, 2012 at St. Francis Memorial Hospital. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point with burial to follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 am to 8 pm Monday with Guild, Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters Rosary at 1:30 pm and Public Wake at 7 pm at Stokely Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point. Violet G. Baumert was born to Joseph and Magdelyn (Liekhus) Dirkschneider on November 20, 1915 south of Olean in Colfax County, NE. She attended Sacred Heart Academy. In her youth, she worked in Dodge at Schimick Drug Store. On January 18, 1939, Violet married Raymond Baumert in Olean. The couple farmed in the Snyder-Scribner area before settling in Aloys until their retirement in 1987. Violet was a member of Guild, Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters and the Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards and quilting. She is survived by daughters, Janet (Don) Burger of West Point, and Eileen Shey of Robins, IA; son Mel (Joyce) Baumert of Schuyler, NE; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; sisters DeloresArps of Worland, WY, Rita Hamilton of Austin, TX and Madelyn Hooker of Jefferson City, MO. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond in 1994; daughter Lois; brothers Roman and Marvin; and sister Maureen Miller.
