Vincent H. Engelmeyer, 87, of West Point died, Sunday March 8, 2009 at his farm home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point with Reverend Frank Lordemann as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery with Military Honors graveside. Public Wake with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be 7:00 pm. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 4:00 pm. Tuesday at Stokely Funeral Home and continue at the church with family present starting at 6:00 pm. Memorials may be made to Guardian Angels or Central Catholic Endowments. Vincent was born August 22, 1921 at West Point to Stephen and Caroline Schlickbernd Engelmeyer. He attended Guardian Angels Catholic School. In 1943, Vince joined the U. S. Coast Guard and was discharged in 1945. On August 20, 1945, Vince married Leona Hunke at Holy Cross Catholic Church at Beemer. The couple lived their entire married life on the farm north of West Point. Vince was a farmer, and feed cattle, hogs and sheep. He retired in the mid 1990’s. Vince was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus, VFW, Cuming County Feeders and Cuming County Pork Producers. He was a Nebraska Cornhusker fan and season ticket holder since 1953. He enjoyed traveling to different countries on agricultural tours, and hosted several tours, in cooperation with the County Extension office, on his own farm. In 1963, the Vince Engelmeyer family received the WOWT Channel 6, Farm Family of the month award. He was on the Board of Directors for F & M Bank. Vince recently enjoyed a trip to Washington D. C. courtesy of Humble Heroes. Survivors include his wife, Leona, daughter Nancy (Bryan) Knobbe of West Point, sons Robert (Mary) and Thomas (Mary) both of West Point, Gerald of Omaha, and Ron (Deborah) of Bloomington, Illinois, sister Mildred Grant of Cherokee, Iowa, grandchildren Cari Coons, Jen Alley, Beth Engelmeyer, Lisa Haase, Kelsey and Emily Knobbe, Richard and Russell Engelmeyer, Eric, Bryce and Allyn Knobbe, and Dylan Engelmeyer, great grandchildren Lexis, Carter and Breckyn Haase, Ryleigh, Keeleigh, and Kreighton Knobbe, Megan, Erica, and Blake Engelmeyer, Michaela and Caitlyn Coons. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law Marie and Martin Weiler, brother and sister in law Herman and Eleanor Engelmeyer.
