Vincent Dirkschneider, 96, of Dodge, died Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Parkview Home in Dodge. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, January 4 at 10:00am at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Reverend An Duy Phan as celebrant. Burial with military honors will be at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery with lunch following at the church hall. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00pm all at church. Memorials may be made to the Dodge Veterans Memorial. Vincent Henry Dirkschneider was born June 20, 1920 at West Point to Frank and Margaret Batenhorst Dirkschneider. The days of his youth were spent along the banks of the Elkhorn River. He attended Guardian Angels Catholic School in West Point before moving with his family to a farm south of Snyder. From March 23, 1942 until December 31, 1945, Vince served in the United States Army, stationed on Azores Island off the coast of Portugal. On June 25, 1945, Vincent married Alma Kampschneider at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Olean. The couple farmed in Cuming County north of Dodge, moving into Dodge in 1979. Vincent worked for Steffy Transfer, hauling freight and shuttling cars for 40 years; and for 18 years drove the school bus. Vincent was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and sang in the choir. He held several offices in the VFW and American Legion clubs. Vince enjoyed playing cards and conversation. Survivors include sons, Larry and Mike (Terri) both of Dodge; daughters, Lois (Melvin) Sindelar of Clarkson, Linda (Ed) Napravnik of Omaha, Joan (Gene) Agee of Lenore, ID, and Diane (Mike) Pieper of Wayne; brothers, Francis of Dodge, and Dale (Stella) of Oklahoma City, OK; sister, Bernice Kaup of Dodge; sisters-in-law, Julia and Patricia Dirkschneider of Snyder and Dolores Dirkschneider of Dodge; 17 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Alma on April 11, 2001; brothers, Norbert, Quintin, Adrian, and Ray; sisters-in-law, Melva Jean and Alice; and brother-in-law, Richard Kaup.
