Valerian Eikmeier, 88, of Dodge, died Monday, October 19, 2009 at Parkview Nursing Home in Dodge. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am. Thursday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge with Reverend Patrick McLaughlin as celebrant. Rosary will be recited at 3:00 pm. Wednesday and Christian Wake services will be 8:00 pm. Wednesday both at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Visitation will be noon until 8:00 pm. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to the church. Stokely Funeral Home of Dodge is in charge of arrangements. Valerian Joseph Eikmeier was born December 26, 1929 in Colfax County near Olean to Conrad and Mary Peitzmeier Eikmeier. He attended Sacred Heart Academy at Olean. Valerian served in the US Army from 1942 and 1945, stationed in Germany and France. On May 1, 1946, Valerian married Coletta Hunke at St. Boniface Catholic Church at Monterey. The couple farmed south west of Dodge until moving into Dodge in 1981. Valerian was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, serving as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, and belonged to Holy Name Society. He was a member and Past Commander of the Dodge American Legion and served on the Dodge Cooperative Board. Valerian loved his family and farming, he enjoyed bowling and golfing. Survivors include his wife Coletta of Dodge, sons Gerald (Tammy) of Dodge, Donald (Karen) of Elkhorn, Bernie (Sandy) of Dodge and James (Eileen) of Henderson, sister Doreen (Kenneth) Uhing of West Point, and brother Clarence (Anna Mae) Eikmeier of Dodge, grandchildren Kristin (Galen) Uhing, Heather (John) Baumert, Nicole Eikmeier, Cary ( Craig) Reimers, Craig, Barry, Jacob (April), Nathan, Connor, Cory (Erica) and Casey (Ginger) Eikmeier, great grandchildren Austin and Mason Uhing, Hannah Baumert, Caden, Brenna, Jayci and Kinsley Reimers, Eliana and Maclain Eikmeier. He was preceded in death by great granddaughter Anessa Eikemeier, sisters Irma Ulrich and Jeanette Northrup, brothers Harold, Ralph, Roland, Albin, and Delbert Eikmeier.
