Thomas Burger, 81, of West Point, died Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at West Point Living Center. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Saturday, September 8, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Reverend Gerald Gonderinger as Celebrant. Burial with Military Honors will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Visitation will be noon to 8 Friday with Public Wake and Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:30 pm Friday at Stokely Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to St. Francis Memorial Hospital or Guardian Angels Central Catholic Endowment Fund. Stokely Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Thomas Herman Burger was born January 23, 1931 south of Snyder in Dodge County to Henry and Josephine (Meister) Burger. He graduated from Guardian Angels in 1949. Tom served in the US Army from May of 1952 until April of 1954 where he specialized in communications and was stationed in Germany. On October 17, 1950, Tom married Lorraine Wolff at St. Aloyisius Catholic Church in Aloys. Tom sold cattle feed for Walnut Grove, retiring in 1990. He suffered a stroke in 2001. He enjoyed making quilt stands, traveling and fishing. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, American Legion and VFW where he was a past commander. Survivors include his wife, Lorraine of West Point; daughter Bonnie (Allen) Altstadt of Norfolk; son Patrick (Dorothy) of West Point; brother Donald (Janet) of West Point; sister Alice (Paul) Matthews of Aurora, CO, 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter Nicole Burger.
