Teresa Luebbert, 92, of West Point, died Friday, July 31, 2026 at Colonial Haven in Beemer.  Funeral Mass will be 10:30am on Thursday, August 6 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point with Reverend James Weeder as celebrant.  Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery with lunch following at the GACC Cafeteria.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm with a Christian Mothers Rosary at 7:00pm at Stokely Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at church one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Memorials may be made to the Guardian Angels Central Catholic Endowments.  Arrangements by Stokely Funeral Home.

Teresa Marie Luebbert was born on May 10, 1934, in Coin, IA to Maurice and Margaret (Maher) Gilmore. She grew up in the Imogene, IA, area and graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Imogene. Teresa continued her education at the College of Saint Mary, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education.

While attending college, Teresa learned about a young man named Don Luebbert from her roommate. Don was serving in the United States Army at the time, and Teresa began corresponding with him through letters. Their friendship grew into love, and the couple was married on June 11, 1957, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Council Bluffs.

Education was Teresa’s lifelong calling. She taught for more than 50 years at schools throughout the West Point area, including District 22, District 25, Guardian Angels Elementary School, Central Catholic High School and Beemer Public School. She especially treasured her years teaching in one-room schoolhouses and never forgot the students who passed through her classrooms. Even after her retirement, Teresa continued substitute teaching for many years. She also shared her faith by teaching catechism.

Teresa was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Christian Mothers. She also served on the St. Francis Memorial Hospital Board.

Outside the classroom, Teresa enjoyed cooking, reading, sewing and working on crafts. She had a remarkable talent for nearly any craft she tried. She loved shopping and enjoyed collecting many different treasures throughout the years.

Teresa is survived by her husband, Don of West Point; daughter, Charlotte Luebbert and her husband, Peter Kwan, of Temple, Texas; grandson, Samuel Kwan and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Margaret Gilmore; son, Kevin Luebbert; sister, Carolyn (Julius) Sonderman; brother, Dennis (Patricia) Gilmore; sister-in-law, Laura Luebbert (Jim) Wagner; and brothers-in-law, Louis (Verena), Leo (Oliva) and Marvin (Antonella) Luebbert.
