Steve Snyder, 58, of West Point, died Saturday, October 6, 2012 at St. Francis Memorial Hospital. Services will be 10:30 am Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church with Reverend Chris Meier officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be noon to 8:00 pm with family receiving friends 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday at Stokely Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements. Steven Daniel Snyder was born July 10, 1954 in O’Neill, NE to Milo and Patricia (Stevens) Snyder. He grew up in Orchard, NE, was a 1972 graduate of Orchard High School and a 1973 graduate of Northeast Community College majoring in TV and electronics. On May 30, 1981, Steve married Elaine Oist at the United Methodist Church in Orchard. The couple made their home in West Point where Steve worked at Schmader Electric, IBP and was employed by West Point Dairy Products LLC for the past 22 years. Steve was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. He became a Lifetime Boy Scout, earning the Order of the Arrow. He enjoyed riding dirt bikes and was a member of the Nite Owls Motorcycle Club. He was an active member of West Point Sportsman Club serving on their Board of Directors. He shared his love for the outdoors by volunteering for the local chapter of Pheasants Forever youth mentor hunt. He helped with Hunter Safety and later became an instructor. He served on the Logistics Committee for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Steve valued the friendships he made over the years being involved in all these organizations. His sense of humor and willingness to help others will not be forgotten. Survivors include his wife, Elaine; daughter Amanda; parents Milo and Patricia Snyder of Norfolk; brother ValGene (Jan) Snyder of Jeffersonville, IN; sister Pam (Ted) Case of Stanton, NE; brother Eric (Kim) Snyder of Wahoo, NE; sister-in-law Diane Snyder of Lenexa, KS; mother in law Harriet Oist of Apple Valley, MN; sisters in law Marge (Gary Fredricey) Oist of Apple Valley, MN, and Marilyn (John) Fisher of Hillsboro, OR. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; father-in-law, Bill Oist; brother Dana and son Michael.
