Sam Kirwan, 25, formerly of West Point, died Tuesday, October 18, 2016 in Philadelphia, PA. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00am on Saturday, October 29 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 2708 S. 24th St. in Omaha. Burial will be after Mass with lunch following at the church hall. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm with a Wake Service at 7:00pm at Heafey Hoffman Dworak and Cutler Bel Air Chapel located at 12100 West Center Road in Omaha. A memorial has been established. Stokely Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Samuel Robert Kirwan was born on June 18, 1991 to Michael and Barbara (Haiar) Kirwan in Sioux Falls, SD. The family moved to Sheldon, IA in 1997 and then to West Point in 2006. Sam graduated from West Point Central Catholic in 2010. After moving to Omaha, he attended Wyoming Catholic College in Lander, WY. After several stops around the country and the world, Sam ended up in Owensboro, KY where he worked for Hyland Filter Services. Sam was an outgoing and spiritual individual, venturing on several mission trips including one to Uganda and a pilgrimage to Ireland. He gained a lifetime of experiences through his travels and left a meaningful impression on everyone he encountered. Sam loved music and could be found singing with his friends throughout his journey. Survivors include his parents, Mike and Barb of Elkhorn; sisters, Rachel (Corbin) Hernandez of Kansas City, MO, Anna (Blair) Koehn of Omaha, and Grace and Maria Kirwan of Elkhorn; nieces Evelyn Hernandez, Jacinta Koehn, and Laila Koehn; and grandfather, Lawrence Haiar of Mitchell, SD. Sam is preceded in death by his nephew, Finnley Hernandez; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Haiar; and grandparents, Robert and Sandra Kirwan.
