Funeral services will be Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 10:30am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in West Point with Reverend Richard Bringewatt as officiant. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery with lunch following at the church hall. Visitation will be Friday from 12:00pm to 7:00pm with family receiving friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Stokely Funeral Home. A memorial has been established. Stokely Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Ruth was born February 20, 1957 to Gerhard and Mae (Schmidt) Broekemeier. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church. After graduating with honors from West Point High School in 1975, Ruth earned her Associate’s Degree from St. John’s College in 1977, and her Bachelor’s Degree from Concordia River Forest in 1979. Following a playful courtship at their mutual place of work, she married Robert Lee Miller on September 8, 1984. Together, they had two children, Amanda and Daniel. An accomplished educator and administrative executive, Ruth worked in Florida, Chicago, and throughout the southern U. S. before returning to West Point with her family in 2003, where she worked as an academic administrator at St. Paul Lutheran School and as a medical aide at Colonial Haven & Courts in Beemer. Always dedicated to her family, she left her work to take care of her mother, Mae, when she was diagnosed with late-stage ovarian cancer. A beloved mother and daughter, Ruth was also a talented seamstress, an esteemed educator, an impeccable copy editor, an accomplished writer, a respected counselor, a skillful designer, a connoisseur of eclectic cinema, a contributing dramaturg to multiple Hollywood films, and introduced her younger brother Robert to the band Chicago before they were cool. Ruth is survived by her father Gerhard; sisters Linda (James) Abraham and Jane (Gary) Tillman; brother Robert (Christina) Broekemeier; and two children Amanda (Joshua) Bermudez and Daniel (Kristin) Miller. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Miller and mother Mae Broekemeier.
