Ruth Anna Martha Maas, 93, of Bancroft, died November 27, 2004 at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point. Ruth was born July 26, 1911 on a farm south west of Bancroft in Cuming County, Nebraska to Robert A. and Clara (Siebrandt) Ortmann. She was baptized August 20, 1911at her home, and confirmed May 24, 1925 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. On January 25, 1940 she married John Maas at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft. The couple made their home and farmed 8 miles west of Bancroft until moving into West Point in the early 90’s. Ruth was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school, and was an Altar Guild member, serving as president and secretary. Ruth loved to sew and quilt and raise a garden. Her passion was her family Survivors include her husband, John, residing at the West Point Living Center, son Rodney Maas of Waterloo, daughter Donna (LeRoy) Feldhaus of West Point, grandchildren Sharon (Chuck ) Inman of Plano, TX, Donald (Kelli) Maas of Omaha, Ryan (Sandy) Maas of Elkhorn, Lorie (Steven) Prestyly of Williamsburg, VA, great grandchildren Summer, Cody, and Jake Maas, Conner and Chelby Inman and Katie Prestyly, half brother Lewis (Rosella) Mehling of Sidney, sister-in-laws Harriet Ortmann of Lincoln and Florence Ortmann of West Point. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothersArt and Alvin Ortmann, stepfather Frank Mehling, step brothers Irvin, Elmer and Vernon Mehling. Services will be 10:30 Tuesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft with Reverend Terry Daberkow officiating. Burial will be at the Bancroft Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 8:30 pm. Monday with family present 6:00 pm. until 7:00 pm. at Stokely Funeral Home.
