Robert John Stalp, 83, of West Point, died May 14, 2008 at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point. Services will be 10:30 am. Saturday at Stokely Funeral Chapel in West Point with Pastor Mike Harris, Emmanuel Fellowship Church, Omaha, officiating. Lunch will follow at the Vets Club and family graveside services at Hooper Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Gideon’s International or the donor’s choice. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 8:00 pm. Friday at Stokely Funeral Home with family present 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Those wishing to leave on line condolences may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Robert was born August 10, 1924, rural West Point to Bernard and Anna Uhing Stalp. He attended elementary and high school at Guardian Angels Catholic School in West Point. He served in the US Army during the occupation of Japan during WWII. After his discharge, Bob returned to West Point where he engaged in farming and cattle feeding. On February 18, 1950, he married Illa Tillman at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hooper. Following marriage, he was worked in construction with his brother, Hank, later founding Nebraska Sand and Gravel, which their son, Tim, now manages. Robert was a member of Emmanuel Fellowship Church in Omaha, the Gideons, and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. One of his greatest joys was distributing Gideon Bibles to school children at the county fair. Survivors include his wife, Illa, of West Point, sons John (Teresa) of Fairfax, California, Robert (Sharon) of Gilbert, AZ, Timothy (Joyce) of West Point, daughters Karen (David) Ross of Fremont, LuAnn (Steven) Ludford of Peru, Illinois, grandsons Ross, Christopher and Cody Stalp, granddaughtersHolly O’Dell, and Katy Stalp, great grandchildren Shannen and Brenden O’Dell, brothers Bernard Stalpand Henry (Mona) Stalp of West Point, sisters Lucille Miller of Fort Worth, Texas, Marcella Lubker of West Point, Imelda Revel San Rafael, California, and Mary Ann Kelly of Roswell, New Mexico. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister Dolores Stalp.
