Robert Eugene Crites was born on February 10, 1938, to Hoy Crites and Edith Flory Studwell in Independence, OH.  He was raised amidst the hills of West Virginia, an environment that shaped his character and resilience.  Robert’s life was marked by a deep commitment to his country. He joined the United States Air Force on March 28, 1956, serving as a helicopter mechanic. With unwavering dedication, he spent 22 years, 2 months, and 2 days in the service, earning an honorable discharge on June 1, 1978. On August 31, 1957, Robert married Faye, and together they built a family of four children. After Faye’s death, he found love again and married Roberta Laner on March 22, 1971, expanding their family with four more children. After his military service, Robert worked for General Electric for 25 years and spent 16 years with Railcrew Xpress.

Beyond his work, Robert was an active member of his community. The street in front of the American Legion in Howells stands as a testament to his contributions and is dedicated in his honor.  In his leisure time, Robert found joy in two favorite pastimes – bowling and golf.
