Rita Ann Grovijohn McKenzie, 54, of Norfolk, formerly of Dodge, died December 14, 2006 at the Norfolk Regional Center of cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am. Monday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge with Reverend Mark McKercher as celebrant. Wake services will be 7:30 pm. Sunday at St. Wenceslaus. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery at Dodge. Visitation will be 3:00 pm. until 8:00 pm. Sunday at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Wenceslaus School or to St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Rita was born October 2, 1952 at West Point to Rudy and Mary Fischer Grovijohn. She grew up in Dodge and attended St. Wenceslaus and Dodge public schools. Rita lived most of her adult life at the Norfolk Regional Center. Rita was very special to all who knew and loved her and always enjoyed visiting. Wealth was not important to Rita, as she would give her things away to those she cared about. Rita’s life was a message to all of us to live simply and to be kind to all. Rita loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed reading, playing and beating her family at Rummy. She especially enjoyed getting cards and pictures from all her nieces and nephews. Those left to celebrate her life include her mother Mary Grovijohn of Dodge, sisters Joan (Jon) Tiemeyer of Iowa City, IA, Theresa (Dr. Rich) Bokemperof Sergeant Bluff, IA, Bonnie (Jay) Vogltance of West Point, Diane (Ron) Gentrup of Wayne and Lois (Ken) Rolf of Elkhorn, brothers Bill (Linda) Grovijohn of Howells, Dennis (Julie) Grovijohn of Liberty, MO and Tom (Cherie) Grovijohn of Dodge, 23 nieces and nephews, 7 great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Rudy, on September 6, 2004 and 2 nephews. Stokely Funeral Home in Dodge is in charge of arrangements.
