Richard J. Baumert, Sr., 94, of West Point died Thursday, July 19, 2007 at West Point Living Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am. Monday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church with Reverend Gerald Gonderinger as celebrant. Public Wake Service with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be 7:00 pm. Sunday at Stokely Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at St. Aloysius Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the cemetery or Central Catholic Endowment. Visitation will be noon until 8:00 pm. Sunday at the Stokely Funeral Home. Richard was born November 20, 1912 on the family farm south of Aloys in Cuming County to John and Clara Rebhausen Baumert and attended school at St. Aloysius School. Richard spent his life farming near Aloys. In the 1930 depression years, after planting his own crops, Richard would travel to South Dakota to thresh wheat and oats, then on to North Dakota to help with the potato harvest, migrating on to Iowa to pick corn by hand, returning to his own harvest in the fall. On Aril 29, 1946, he married Ludovica Meiergerd at St. Aloysius Church at Aloys. The couple retired into West Point in 2001. Richard was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and a former member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Survivors include daughter Judith (Jeff) Light of Philomath OR, sons Richard, Jr. (Jean) of West Point, Don (Sharon) of Lincoln, and Dan of Bangor ME, sisters Clara Miserez and Irene Benson both of Omaha, brother Edwin (Mary Ann) Baumert of West Point; grandchildren Tony Baumert, Jessica Baumert, Sarah Baumert, Tim (Cassie) Baumert, Melissa (Matt) Frigaard and Spencer Light: great grandchildren Ellie and Grace Baumert. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ludovica, on March 12, 2007, sisters Martha Baumert and Laura Ridder and brother Raymond.
