Raymond G. Meiergerd, 97, of West Point, died Wednesday, November 27 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:30am on Tuesday, December 3 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point with Rev. James Weeder as celebrant.  Burial with military honors will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery with lunch following at the Nielsen Center.  Visitation with family present will be Monday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm with a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:00pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Memorials may be made to Central Catholic Science Department.  Arrangements by Stokely Funeral Home.

Raymond “Ray” Gerhard Meiergerd was born January 2, 1927, in West Point to Edward Sr. and Anna (Praest) Meiergerd.  He attended St. Aloysius School and graduated from Guardian Angels in 1944.  Ray helped on the farm until called to serve in the Army from 1950 – 1952, during the Korean War.  Following his time in the service, Ray returned to the farm.  On September 9, 1953 Ray married Genevieve Stalp at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point.  The couple continued to farm until their son, Dan, took over the farming operation, at which time they moved to West Point.

Ray was an active member of St. Mary’s Church, Knights of Columbus Council # 2272, American Legion and VFW.  Ray served four years as Commander of the VFW Post.

Survivors include his daughters, Mary (Tim) Sine of Wright City, MO, Lois (Tim) Urwiler of Laurel, Jean (Michael) Kresnak of Wauwatosa, WI, Rita (Mark) Kreutzer of Holdrege; daughter-in-law, Leta Meiergerd of Dodge; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Genevieve in 1994; son, Daniel Meiergerd in 2021; daughter, Dr. Susan Meiergerd-Brozik in 2014; brothers, Rev. Godfrey Meiergerd, Aloysius Meiergerd and Edward Meiergerd, Jr.; and sister, Ludovica Baumert.
