Orville O. Diers, 79, of West Point, died Sunday, March 15, 2009 at V. A. Hospital in Omaha. Funeral Services will be 10:30 am. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point with Reverend Christian Meier officiating. Burial with military honors will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Visitation will be noon until 8:00 pm. with family present 6:00 pm. until 8:00 pm. Tuesday at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church. Orville was born November 20, 1929 on the family farm near Crowell in Cuming County, to Robert and Delilah Petz Diers. He attended country school and graduated from West Point High School with the class of 1949. Orville served in the US Army from October 4, 1951 until September 22, 1953, stationed mostly in Alaska. On June 29, 1958 he married Elizabeth Toelle at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point. The couple farmed for a year, then moved to Macon, Missouri where Orville worked as district manager for Archer Oil. The couple moved to Kansas City, Missouri where Orville worked for Behlen Manufacturing. In 1969 the couple settled in Fremont and Orville ran his own Vending Machine business and for the last 20 years worked as a part time security guard for CF Industries in Fremont. He was a member of the Eagles, and a 50 year member of American Legion. He enjoyed collecting coins and stamps. Orville loved camping, fishing and all outdoor activities. He was a huge Nebraska football fan. Survivors include his wife Elizabeth “Liz” Diers of Fremont, daughters Debra (Samuel) hyre of Bremerton, WA, and Kelly (Robert) Rockford of Fremont, sisters Linina Reiman of West Point and Betty Jacobsen of Wisner, brother Robert (Jean) of Lincoln grandchildren Cassandra Hyre, Hanna, Ian, and Wyatt Rockford. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Leland Diers and infant sister Catherine.
