Mervin Henry Drieling, 83, of rural West Point, died April 8, 2005 at Oakland Heights Nursing Home in Oakland. Memorial Services will be 10:30 am. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church in Oakland with Reverend Carl Kramer officiating. Those wishing to sign the register book may do so 9:00 am. till 8:30 pm. Monday with family receiving friends 6:00 pm. until 8:00 pm. at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point. Those wishing to leave online condolences may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Mervin was born December 11, 1921 on the family farm south east of West Point in Cuming County to John H. and Henney Meyer Drieling. He attended grade school at Dist. 46 and 5 months at Scribner. Mervin quit school to stay home and farm and do chores after his father broke his leg. On April 8, 1945, he married Winifred Hasenkamp at the Lutheran Church in Beemer. They farmed near the Cuming, Burt, and Dodge County Lines. In 1950 they moved to the farm on D Road where he farmed and resided the remainder of his life. Four sons and a daughter were born to this union: Edward, Duane, Dennis, Patty and Burnell. Mervin alsoenjoyed working for the Cuming Township the driving road grader maintaining the county roads. After several years of being a widower, Mervin metRosemary Quinn Schwaninger. They were married February 3, 1973 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yutan. They loved dancing, fishing, and traveling and often included Rosemary’s mother, Caroline Quinn, in their adventures. Mervin was a member of First Lutheran Church in Oakland where he had served on the Church Council, served on the Farmers Union Board, Dist. 27 School Board, st. John’s County Line Church Council, and St. John’s Lutheran Brotherhood. Survivors include his wife, Rosemary, of West Point, and her mother Caroline Quinn of Oakland, sons Edward (Kathy), Duane (Julie) all of Oakland, Dennis (Janet) Ft. Calhoun, Burnell (Rita) of Emerson, daughter Patty (Ron) Skwarek of Omaha, sisters Bernita Terkildsen of Scribner and Berdina (Harold) of West Point, 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Winifred and a sister LaVerna Benne.
