Melvin “Max” Stewart, 84, of West Point, died Monday, October 8, 2012 at his home. Memorial services will be 10:30 am Friday at Stokely Funeral Home Chapel in West Point. Visitation will be noon to 8 pm Thursday with family receiving friends from 5 pm to 7 pm. Stokely Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Melvin “Max” Eugene Stewart was born August 6, 1928 in Spencer, NE to Cecil and Ada (Burley) Stewart. He attended school in Bloomfield and served in the United States Air Force from 1948 to 1950. On May 18, 1952, Max married Betty Jean Volquardson at Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Lindy, Nebraska. The couple was blessed with six children that provided them with many memories and joy. Max drove truck for Ebel Transfer and West Point Dairy. He enjoyed a good game of cards, a good steak, social drinking in his younger years, and countless cups of coffee. Max is survived by his wife, Betty; children Charmaine Acree of Geneva, NE, Cheryl (Scott) Dietrich of Leigh, NE, Russell (Terri) Hashberger of Wamego, KS, Keith (Michaela) Beckmann of Zweibruken, Germany, SusanRobinson of West Point, Jeff (Heather) Stewart of West Point, NE; grandchildren Jason Throener, Jerry Throener, Christopher Doupnik, Nolana Costello, Marc Doupnik, Bradley Stewart, Kelli Stewart, Quintin Stewart, Patrick Stewart and Courtney Stewart; great grandchildren Hailey Throener, Aubrey Throener, Levi Doupnik, Evan Doupnik, Elijah Costello, Hailee Costello, Jackson Costello, Jocelyn Stewart, Cole Stewart, Kierra Stewart, Brandon Stewart and Courtney Lase. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Ronald, Jerry, Norman and Bobbie.
