Melburn Emil Brockmann was born on April 26, 1930, to Emil and Hattie (Wascher) Brockmann in West Point. Melburn’s life was one of hard work, faith, and a deep connection to his community. Melburn grew up on the family farm and attended Immanuel Lutheran School through the 8th grade. As a young man with an adventurous spirit, he hitchhiked to Washington, where he spent a summer picking apples. He later returned home to the farm west of West Point, embracing the life of a farmer.

Melburn’s sense of duty led him to enlist in the United States Navy. After his service, he resumed farming and raised livestock. Fate intervened when he met his future wife, Marian Ludwig, after the two were in a minor car accident on the Beemer Bridge. The couple married on February 5, 1956, at St. John Lutheran Church in Beemer.

A man who loved the great outdoors, Melburn enjoyed hunting in Springview and found endless joy in fishing, his favorite pastime. In his later years, he discovered a talent for woodworking and carving, creating beautiful pieces that reflected his love of craftsmanship. He also took great pride in gardening, tending to his plants with the same dedication he gave to his farm and family.

Melburn and Marian were known for their warm hospitality, hosting neighborhood gatherings, lively fish fries, and unforgettable Fourth of July parties. Melburn’s life was firmly rooted in his faith. He was a devoted member of his church, where he sang in the choir and shared his love of music with his congregation.

Melburn is survived by his children, Mike (Jody) of West Point, Marcia Brockmann of Battle Creek, Ted (Joanna), Don (Colleen), Chris (Kim) all of West Point, and Corinne (Duane) Wordekemper of Omaha; daughter-in-law, Lorna Brockmann of Hoskins; 23 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Esther Brockmann of Dannebrog; and brother-in-law, Rodger Anderson of West Point. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marian in 2024; son, Tom Brockmann; grandchildren, Jason Brockmann and Brooke Brockmann; sisters, Ivy Berg and Mardell Rogers; brother, Norbert Brockmann; and sister-in-law, Jane Anderson.
