Maxine E. Lofgren, 82, of West Point, died Sunday, January 25, 2009 at West Point Living Center. Services will be 10:30 am. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in West Point with Reverend Richard Bringewatt officiating. Burial will be at West Side Cemetery, rural Oakland. VFW Auxiliary Rites will be 5:00 pm. Tuesday at Stokely Funeral Home. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 8:00 pm. Tuesday at Stokely Funeral Home with family receiving friends 5:00 until 7:00 pm. Maxine was born March 10, 1926 near Beemer to Louis and Edna Kuester Picha. She grew up on the farm and attended Country School Dist. 25 and was a 1945 West Point High School graduate. Maxine taught country school at districts 22 and 14. On June 10, 1947 she married Eldon Lofgren at St. Paul Lutheran Church in West Point. The couple farmed east of West Point in Cuming County, living on the same farm their entire married life. Maxine was an active farm wife, who milked cows and helped with the calves and other farm chores. In the late 1970’s, she worked as a substitute cook at West Point Public School. Maxine was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid, VFW Auxiliary, Friendly Neighbors Extension Club and various card clubs including Happy Days card club. She was a 4-H leader for Clover Leaf Homemakers for several years. She enjoyed exhibiting her crafts at the Cuming County Fair. Survivors include her husband, Eldon, of West Point, daughters Marla (Arlen) Gall of Hadar, and Gina (Brian) Luebbert of West Point, sons Dale (Carol) and Dan (Linda) both of West Point and David (Mary Jo) of Elkhorn, daughter-in-law Linda Lofgren of West Point, sisters Berneice Peterson of West Point and Nyla (Richard) Batenhorst of Beemer, sister-in-law Marcella Picha of Omaha, 20 grandchildren; Jeff Lofgren, Chris Lofgren, Cory Schlueter, Julie Johnson, Cody Lofgren, Elizabeth Lofgren, Katie Schmaderer, Corporal Shane Lofgren, Jenna Gall, Hollie Lofgren, Emily Lofgren, Brent Lofgren, Luke Lofgren, Jared Gall, Kelli Luebbert, MaKenna Lofgren, Mitchell Lofgren, jacob Luebbert, Nicki Luebbert and Max Lofgren, 6 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by a son Dwight in 1981, sister Lois Jean Burger and brother Richard Picha.
