Matthias E.”Matt” Hugo, 85, of West Point, died January, 5, 2008 at Norfolk Veterans Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church with Reverend Gerald Gonderinger as celebrant. Public Wake with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be 7:00 pm. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church. Cremation will follow. Burial at St. Michael’s Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 4:00 pm. Tuesday at Stokely Funeral home and continue at the church. Memorials may be made to Benedictine Abbey at Schuyler or Assumption Abbey at Richardson, ND. Matt was born April 30, 1922 at West Point to Joseph George and Margaret Hilz Hugo. He graduated from Guardian Angels Catholic School with the class of 1940. In December of 1943, Matt entered the US Army, serving in California and in England, and was discharged in March of 1945. On October 12, 1946, Matt married Adelaide Ruser at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point. Matt was involved his entire working life with the family business, Hugo Plumbing and Heating. There, Matt was involved with designing and fabricating of heating and air conditioning systems. He was involved and held offices with several Heating and Cooling Associations. Matt enjoyed traveling and was involved with Dale Carnegie programs. He was passionate about his work with the missions, especially in Peru, and was active with the World Health Organization. Matt was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus, VFW and American Legion and the University of Nebraska Touch Down Club. Survivors include daughters; Mary (Ed) Hugo Dechant of Westminster, CO, Barb (Ron) Paloma of Norfolk, and Cheryl (Marvin) Roisland of Wheaton, IL, sisters Jeanette (Henry) Polzer and Julie Wordekemper , brother Ambose (Nora) Hugo, all of West Point, grandchildren; Marci (David) Petta, Hannah Paloma and Erik Roisland andgreat grandson, Colin Petta. He is preceded in death by his wife “Bobbi” in December of 1994, parents, brothers Paul and Aelred, sister Florence Schnur and grandson Kyle Paloma.
