Mary “Chida” Wisnieski, 86, of Dodge, died Monday, April 8 at Franciscan Healthcare in West Point.  Funeral Mass will be Monday, April 15 at 10:30am at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge with Rev. Walter Jong-A-Kiem as celebrant.  Burial will be at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery with lunch following at the church hall.  Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00pm to 5:00pm with a Vigil Service at 5:00pm at church.  Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.  Arrangements by Stokely Funeral Home.

Mary Ida Wisnieski was born on May 5,1937 in Fremont to John and Edith (Button) Chapman. She attended school in North Bend and graduated from North Bend High School in 1954. She received her teaching certificate from Wayne State College and taught in a country school near North Bend. On February 1, 1958, Chida married Joseph Wisnieski at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Clyde. The couple farmed and raised 10 children south of Dodge before moving to town in 1991. Chida worked in various roles in the Dodge school system. She also worked in nutritional services at Parkview Nursing Home.

Chida was a leader of Town and Country 4-H Club and a member of Sunnyside Hill Extension Club. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Altar Society where she served in various roles. Chida’s greatest joy was spending time with her 27 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. Her passions were gardening, reading, birding, watching and listening to all sporting events, and playing cards and games. She thoroughly enjoyed traveling and spending time in Florida for a few months in the winter.

Chida is survived by her children, Stephen of Dodge, Mary (Kevin) Janata of Howells, Peggy (Bill) Allen of Gainesville, FL, Alice (Ken) Ritzdorf of Elkhorn, Joe (Beth) Wisnieski of Schuyler, Janice (Jeff) Bart of Aurora, Dan (Brenda) Wisnieski of Schuyler, Matt (Chris) Wisnieski of Malcolm, and Mike (Brandy) Wisnieski of Gretna; son-in-law, Ron Schommer; grandchildren, Jennifer (Clint) Werner, Bryon (Meagan) Janata, Kevin (Rachel) Janata, Jason (Stacey) Janata, Katie (Jason) Slabach, Chrissy Allen, Brian (Kelly) Allen, Julie (Kyle) Roesler, Jake (Andrea) Ritzdorf, Sara (Nick) Schram, Joe (Faith) Wisnieski, Morgan Wisnieski, Shelby Kuehn, Ben Kuehn, Jordan (Emily) Bart, Josh (Shelby) Bart, Jonna (Zach) Renken, Kyle (Amanda) Walton, Brian Schommer, Erin Draft, Cody (Madison) Wisnieski, Casey (Katelyn) Wisnieski, Mason Wisnieski, Justin Wisnieski, Brandon Wisnieski, Madi Wisnieski, and Ethyn Wisnieski; and 35 great grandchildren. Chida is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph in 2011; daughter, Sue in 2021; parents, John and Edith Chapman; brothers, Dave, Charles, and John Chapman; and parents-in-law, Joseph and Philomena Wisnieski.
