Mary Goeken, 97, of Clarkson, formerly of West Point, NE, died Monday, November 5, 2012 at Alegent Health Hospital in Schuyler, NE. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Friday, November 9, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with burial following at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 am to 7 pm Thursday at Stokely Funeral Home with Guild Rosary at 1:30 Thursday and Public Wake Service at 7 pm Thursday at Stokely Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Mary Gertrude Goeken was born October 20, 1915 in West Point, NE to John and Mary (Birchem) Steffensmeier. She attended school at St. Boniface in Monterrey. On July 24, 1945, Mary married Andrew Goeken at St. Boniface Catholic Church. The couple farmed South of West Point, moving to West Point in 1966. Mary worked as an aide and in housekeeping at St. Francis Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1985. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, baking and spending time with her family. Mary is survived by daughters Mary Ann (Duane) Schlautman of Howells, NE, Alice (Bruce) Connell of Long Pine, NE, Theresa (Ray) Atwood of Lincoln, NE, Rita (Jim) Porter of Castle Rock, CO and Andrea(Stan) Fairchild of Milton-Freewater, OR; son Alvin (Vicki) Goeken of Stanton, NE; sister Margaret Franzluebbers of West Point; brother-in-law Hubert Kampschneider of West Point; sister-in-law Bernice Steffensmeier of West Point, 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Andrew; sons Daniel and Norbert; grandson Adam Goeken; brothers Leo, Anton, Herman, Adolph and Ed Steffensmeier and sisters Johanna Kampschneider and Helen Steffensmeier.
