Mary Jean “Jeanie” (Kaup) Benavides, 68, of Milpitas, California, died Sunday, February 8, 2009 at a San Jose, California Hospital. There will be no visitation. Family will gather for her burial at St. Michael’s Cemetery in West Point. Memorials may be made to Guardian Angels Endowment. Mary Jean Kaup was born January 12, 1941 at Sioux City, Iowa and was adopted as an infant to Charles and Bernice Mundy Kaup of West Point. She was a 1958 graduate of Guardian Angels Catholic School and attended college at Duchesne in Omaha and St. Mary of the Woods in Indiana. She married Ray Grubbe in West Point and the couple lived in Chicago. They later divorced. Jeanie worked as a graphic designer, and lived several years in San Antonia, Texas before moving to California. Survivors include a son Tom of California, sister Nancy (Don) Steffen of West Point, and granddaughter Elizabeth Houseman. She is preceded in death by daughter Barbara Houseman and her parents.
