Marie A. Steffensmeier, 84, of West Point, formerly of Dodge, died March 14, 2007 at West Point Living Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 Saturday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church at Dodge with Reverend Roland Peschel as celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Christian Mothers Rosary will be recited at 3:00 pm. Friday at St. Wenceslaus and Public Wake Services will be 6:00 pm. at St. Wenceslaus. Visitation will be noon until 7:00 pm. at the church in Dodge. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Retirement Community in West Point or the School Sisters of St. Francis in Omaha. Stokely Funeral Home in Dodge is in charge of arrangements. Marie was born February 3, 1922 at Monterey to Joseph Knuever and Elizabeth Ermels Throener Knuever and attended St. Boniface Catholic School. Marie worked as a hired girl before her September 25, 1945 marriage to Anton Steffensmeier at St. Boniface Catholic Church. The couple farmed near Snyder, where Marie was an active farm wife, retiring to Dodge in 1981. The couple moved to St. Joseph’s Retirement Community in West Point in April of 2005. Marie was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Altar Society, and V. F. W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed volunteering at Parkview Nursing Home in Dodge. Survivors include her husband, Anton, of West Point, son Richard (Shadda) Steffensmeier of Scribner, daughters Sister Betty Steffensmeier, School Sisters of St. Francis, of Omaha, Marlene (Ronald) Pietz of Sioux City, IA and Mary (Kevin) Hart of Fort Atkinson, sisters Bernadine (Edwin) Stech and Rita (Norbert) Gubbels both of Osmond, sister in law Clara Throener of West Point, and13 grandchildren. She is preceded in death by sons Michael in January 2002 and Leonard in August 2006, brothers Charles, Sr., Adam (Mary), Robert (Marie) and Herman Throener, and sister Sister Francis Elizabeth Knuever
