Marie A. Schlickbernd, 85, of West Point died Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at her home. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Reverend Gerald Gonderinger as celebrant. Ladies rosary will be 1:30 pm. Friday at Stokely Funeral Home Chapel and Wake services 7:30 pm. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church endowment, St. Francis Memorial Hospital Foundation, or Cuming County Fair Foundation. Visitation will be noon until 6:00 pm. Friday at Stokely Funeral Home and continue and the church until 8:00. Marie was born March 28, 1926 at Beemer to Casper and Margaret Spenner Gentrup. She was a 1943 graduate of Guardian Angels Catholic School and then taught school at District 65. On June 4, 1947, Marie married Joseph Schlickbernd at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Beemer. The couple farmed south east of West Point. Marie worked for 25 years at St. Francis Memorial Hospital as a nursing assistant. The couple moved into West Point in 1980. Marie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Guild, Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters, and VFW Auxiliary. She was an active 4-H leader and extension club member. She enjoyed all sorts of hand work including quilting. Marie will be remembered as a wonderful homemaker who loved her family, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Joe , of West Point, daughters Lois (Mike) McCarty of Houston, TX, Janet (Bob) Hassler of Woodlands, TX, and LuAnn (Dave) Franzluebbers of Dodge, sons, Eugene (Pam) and Patrick (Jean) both of West Point, and Ronald (Linda Cech) of Dodge, sisters Elizabeth Hagedorn of West Point, Margaret (Ray) Ruskamp of Dodge, Sr. Carmelyn Gentrup of Green Bay, WI, and Bernadette (Larry) Thiem of Omaha, brother Tom (Myra) Gentrup of Emerson, 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter in law Brenda Schlickbernd, sister Veronica Vogel, and brothers Casper, Andrew, Cletus and Ambrose Gentrup.
