Magdalen “Maggie” Nelson, 78, of West Point, died May 7, 2008 at West Point Living Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Reverend Gerald Gonderinger as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Public wake will be 7:00 pm. Friday and Guild Rosary will be 1:30 pm. Friday both at Stokely Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the church. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 8:00 pm. Friday at Stokely Funeral Home. Those wishing to leave on line condolences may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Maggie was born March 8, 1930 in Dodge County to Anton and Emma Faltin Havel. She was a Snyder High School graduate and attended business college in Omaha. On February 12, 1950, Maggie married Arlan “Red” Nelson at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge. The couple lived in West Point where Maggie worked for Wimmers until 1975 and then Iowa Beef Processing, as a bookkeeper, retiring in 1980’s. She then did odd bookkeeping jobs. Maggie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Guild. She sang in the Church Choir and was involved with Guitar liturgies at church. She loved fishing and socializing. Maggie raised a large garden and did a lot of canning. Survivors include son Rene (Joy) Nelson of Plattsmouth, daughter Roxanne Rogers of Sheppard, TX sister, Marie Burger of West Point, and granddaughter Samantha Nelson. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband “Red” in December of 1985, sister Rose Batenhorst and 2 infant sons.
