Louis Gene Stecher, 68, of West Point died June 6, 2006 at the West Point Living Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Reverend Frank Lordemann as celebrant. Public Wake Services with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be 7:00 pm. Wednesday at Stokely Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:00 am. until 8:00 pm. Wednesday at Stokely Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Louis was born September 29, 1937 on a farm near Tekamah in Burt County to Adolph and Ludmilla “Sally” Horak Stecher. He attended country school, moving to West Point at the age of 11, continuing his education at West Point Public School. He served in the US Air force, as a mechanic, and worked on Air Force One. On October 27, 1962 he married Theresa Reichlinger at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point. Louie worked for Bliemeister Auto, drove truck for Norco for 28 years and for Stalp Gravel for 8 years. He retired for health reasons in January of 2005. Louis was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. Louis will be remembered as an automobile enthusiast, who loved his work and was devoted to his family. Survivors include his wife, Theresa, of West Point, daughters Marla (Michael) Essensohn of Omaha and Brenda (Jim) Yarger of West Point, a sister Joan (Bill) Drake of Beemer, 4 grandchildren Austin Essensohn, Lindsy, Anthony and Rachel Yarger. He is preceded in death by his parents.
