Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 21 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point with Rev. James Weeder as celebrant. Visitation will be from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at the church on Friday, February 20 with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Lunch at GACC Cafeteria follows the service with burial at the Lyons Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Cuming County Fair Foundation and the Cuming County 4-H Foundation.
Lois had a humble beginning, born in West Point to Joe and Rose (Vogel) Franzluebbers on September 24, 1955. She attended Guardian Angels and Central Catholic High School graduating in 1973. After school she worked as a grocery clerk where she met the love of her life, Mark Johnson. The young couple married on February 8, 1975 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. They started their life together in West Point raising three children; Matthew, Brian and Brent on a farm northeast of West Point.
Lois worked for many years in the West Point Public High School lunch service where she enjoyed helping the students. After watching her children succeed and grow through 4-H, she became a leader in the 4-H community guiding many 4-H’s over the years. Once her family was grown she worked at the West Point Garden Center where her love of plants and the outdoors were on display to the community. Her employment at the Garden Center led to becoming a Master Gardener. During this time she was honored to serve as co-chair for the outdoor decor committee for the 2011 Nebraska Cattleman’s Ball held at rural West Point. She was an active member of the Green and Growing Garden club, serving as president for two years. Lois also served as an officer of the Just A Stitch Quilt Guild where she made donations to Quilts of Valor. She enjoyed entering quilts and photography exhibits at the Cuming County Fair over the years, and could always be found in the vegetable, poultry or 4-H buildings. One of her greatest joys in life was bird watching. There wasn’t a rare bird sighting in the state of Nebraska that Lois and Mark did not seek out.
Lois’ family will never forget any of the good times as she created large scrapbooks for everyone over the years. She loved watching the older grandchildren compete in their various sports or music activities and having the younger ones over for crafts and sleepovers.
Lois is survived by her husband Mark of West Point; mother Rose Franzluebbers of West Point; sons,Matthew (Wendy) Johnson of Omaha, Brian (Nikki) Johnson of Nebraska City, Brent (Chelsea) Johnson of West Point; siblings Karen (Greg) Ochsenbine of Virginia, Lori Franzluebbers of Fremont, Joe (Barb) Franzluebbers of West Point; 6 grandchildren, Andrew, Aaron, Nathan, Isabelle, Weldon and Ronnie.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joe and brother, Kenneth.
