Leonard Schmuecker, 93, of West Point died Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha. Funeral Mass will be 10:30am Wednesday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church at St. Charles, with Reverend Frank Lordemann as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Wake Service will be 7:00pm Tuesday and visitation will be Noon until 8:00pm Tuesday, both at Stokely Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Leonard Anton Schmuecker was born December 29, 1919 on the family farm in St. Charles Township to Albert and Dora (Oligmueller) Schmuecker. He grew up on the farm and attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School. On June 22, 1943, Leonard married Camilla Ritter at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Monterey. Leonard farmed and was employed as a truck driver by Smeal Transfer, Ray Renter Transfer, and Schuetze Trucking. Leonard and Camilla moved to West Point in 1978. Leonard belonged to Holy Name Society and was a lifelong member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. His favorite pastimes included providing care for St. Anthony’s Cemetery; bowling; watching baseball, especially the West Point Bombers; and fishing on the Elkhorn River. Survivors include his wife Camilla of West Point; son David (Linda) Schmuecker of West Point; daughter Connie (Joe) Kaup of Scribner; grandchildren Lori (Scott) Beale, Joe L. Kaup, Jason Kaup, Jeremy (Jamie) Kaup, Rick Schmuecker, Shelley Schmuecker, and Eric (Emily) Schmuecker; great-grandchildren Kaitlyn Beale, Chandler Kaup, and Tanner and Tenley Kaup. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; son Kenny in November 1970; brothers Albert and Ardwin; and sisters Eleanor Vogel and Irene Kloke. Stokely Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
