Leona A. Wortman, 98, of West Point, died September 10, 2008 at West Point Living Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Reverend Gerald Gonderinger as celebrant. Guild Rosary will be 1:30 pm. Thursday and Public Wake services will be 6:30 pm. Thursday both at Stokely Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be noon until 8:00 pm. Thursday at Stokely Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements. Leona was born October 11, 1909, at West Point to Lawrence and Magdalene Kloke Wortman. She grew up on the farm south of West Point and attended Dist. 8 and Guardian Angels Catholic School. Leona lived with her parents on the farm, helping to care for the home and gardens, caring for the hired men and later caring for her parents. In 1971 she moved into West Point where she worked at House of Flowers and D & L Crafts. She moved into St. Joseph’s Retirement Community in March of 1992 and then to West Point Living Center in February of 2008. Leona was a member of St. Mary’s Church Catholic Church and Guild. She enjoyed working with flowers, doing hand work and crafts. She proudly displayed her work at the County Fair. Survivors include a sister-in-law Margaret Wortman of West Point, nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Frances Reeson and Edith Herman, brothers Leo, Leonard and Walter Wortman.
