Leona Woerman, 90, of West Point, died February 10, 2007 at the West Point Living Center. Services will be 11:00 am. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church with Reverend steven Peeler officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church. Visitation will be noon until 8:00 pm. Monday with family receiving friends 5 until 7 at Stokely Funeral Home. Those wishing to leave on line condolences may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com.Leona was born December 29, 1916 on the farm east of West Point to George and Lillie Schulzkump Rozendal and was a 1934 West Point High School graduate. She taught school at District 46 west of West Point for 3 years, and then worked at the ASC office until 1941. On September 11, 1941, she married Grant Woerman at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point. The couple farmed east of West Point, and Leona gave piano lessons in her home from 1954 until 1989. They retired into West Point in 1980 and moved to St. Joseph’s Retirement Community in May of 2000. Leona became a resident of the Living Center in 2002. Leona enjoyed playing the piano and organ, sewing and volunteering at church. Leona and Grant were avid square dancers and took several bus tours of the United States. Leona was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where she played the organ for over 35 years, including many weddings, funerals, and devotions at both St. Joseph’s and the Living Center. She served as choir director, Sunday school teacher and held several offices in the Women of the ELCA. Survivors include a daughter Mary Kay (Bob) Fenske of West Point, grandchildren Lori (Michael) Mersch and Mike (Melanie) Fenske, 5 great grandchildren Jake, Lucas, and Ella Fenske and Amanda and Nathan Mersch, sister Amy (Wilfred) Schinstock of West Point, and sister-in-law Irene Rozendal of West Point. She is preceded in death by her husband Grant in 2003, parents, brother Vernon Rozendal and sister Eunice Kulik.
