Leona L. Meiergerd, 95, of rural West Point, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Colonial Haven in Beemer. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point with Reverend Harold Buse as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Aloysius Cemetery. Guild and Christian Mothers Rosary will be 1:30 pm. Friday at Stokely Funeral Home and Wake services will be 7:00 pm. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 4:00 pm. Friday at Stokely Funeral Home and then continue at St. Mary’s. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Retirement Community, Guardian Angels or Central Catholic Endowments. Leona was born January 21, 1916 in West Point to Clemens and Mary Margaret Stalp Buse. She attended Guardian Angels Catholic School. On September 14, 1938, Leona married Gottfried J. Meiergerd at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The couple farmed near Aloys. Leona was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, guild and Christian Mothers. She was an active farm wife, and enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens. Her Catholic faith and her family were the centers of her life. In later years, quilting became a favorite pastime. Leona made dozens of quilts and shared them with her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her children, LeRoy (Diane) Meiergerd of Beemer, Donald (Judy) of Wichita, KS, Mary Lou McLaughlin, Spring TX, Eugene Meiergerd of Maricopa, AZ, Cletus (Sharon) meiergerd of Manhattan, IL, Clarence (Linda) Meiergerd of New Hampton, IA, Joseph (Robbie) Meiergerd of O’Fallon, MO, Francis (Patty) Meiergerd of West Point, Junella (Gary) Trieweiler of Homer, AK, Carol (Jerry) Kuhlmann of St. Peters, MO, James (Diana) Meiergerd of Fremont and Vincent, (Vicki) Meiergerd of West Point, 32 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and sister in law Elizabeth Prinz of West Point. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gottfried, in September of 1982, brothers Henry and Arthur Buse and her parents.
