Leo Paul Meyer will be laid to rest in West Point, Nebraska, on June 14, 2011. Leo passed away Friday, February 18, 2011, in the beautiful log home he and his brother built in Huntsville, Utah. He was born November 21, 1947, at home on the kitchen table in a blizzard in Custer, South Dakota. Leo is the oldest child of Paul and Doreen Meyer and spent his childhood cutting wood every morning and doing his schoolwork aside the coal oil lantern. The family moved around frequently and in 1966 Leo graduated high school in Paso Robles, California. His first motorcycle was a Cushman; his first Harley-Davidson came in 4 boxes, 6 coffee cans, and a 5-gallon bucket, which he transformed into a 1947 Knucklehead. He later traded the Knucklehead to brother Arlan and built a Panhead police special that he rode for many years. Leo enjoyed many motorcycle trips; his most recent ride was on a 2007 Dynaglide for a cross-country trip to Florida with his brother and friend. On the ride home his youngest son accompanied him. Leo has built and worked on many motorcycles in his life. He is a true craftsman and master of all trades. Leo served his country in the U. S. Army from 1967 to 1969. He was awarded Top Sharpshooter on the United States Army NATO Rifle Team. In 1983, Leo met Judy Oswald in West Point, Nebraska, and together they moved to Ogden, Utah, and raised 4 children together. In 1997, they migrated up the canyon to Huntsville and built their dream home together. Leo retired from FedEx Ground in April 2010; he was a member of the American Legion and ABATE of Utah. Leo is survived by his wife Judy Meyer of Huntsville, UT; mother Doreen Meyer and sister Donna (Tim) Martens of West Point, NE; brother Wayne (Dawn) Meyer of Melbourne, FL; children Brian (Cindy) Loftus of Ogden, UT; Brad (Chris) Meyer of Pender, NE; Jenny (Jeff) Banks of Boise, ID; Harley (Angie) Meyer and Brandon (Mel) Hurst of Clearfield, UT; 8 granddaughters, 2 grandsons, 1 great-granddaughter, and the many brothers, sisters, and friends he made over the years. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Meyer, and brothers David Meyer and Arlan Meyer. Services have been arranged by Stokely Funeral Home; a graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, June 14th, at St. Michael’s Cemetery. A celebration of Leo’s life will be held immediately following at Neligh Park.
