Leo Luebbert, 93, of West Point died Friday, May 2, 2014 at West Point Living Center. Funeral Mass will be 10:30am Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with Reverend Daniel Kampschneider as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Wake Service with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be 7:00pm Monday, and visitation will be Noon until 8:00pm Monday, with family receiving friends 6:00pm until 7:00pm, all at Stokely Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Endowment. Leo Joseph Luebbert was born January 5, 1921 in West Point to Henry and Cunigunda (Schlickbernd) Luebbert. He grew up on the family farm north of town and attended Guardian Angels School. On February 5, 1946, Leo married Oliva Kampschnieder at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Olean. Leo farmed his whole life, moving to a farm east of West Point in 1953, and helped area farmers. Leo was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Third Degree Knights of Columbus. He loved the farm, enjoyed reading farm magazines, spending time outdoors, and was especially fond of John Deere tractors. Survivors include his wife Oliva of West Point; daughters Kathleen (Ray) Kosmicki, Mary Luebbert, Doris Luebbert, and Joyce Luebbert, all of Omaha; sons Ralph (Sara) Luebbert and LeRoy Luebbert, both of West Point; and brothers Louis (Verena) Luebbert and Don (Teresa) Luebbert, both of West Point. Leo was preceded in death by his parents; sister Laura Wagner; and brother Marvin Luebbert. Stokely Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
