Leo A. Kaup. 94, of West Point, died October 15, 2008 at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point with Reverend Michael Grewe and Reverend Gerald Gonderinger as concelebrants. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Lunch will be served at the new West Point Community Center. Public Wake with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be7:00 pm. Sunday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 4:00 pm. Sunday at Stokely Funeral Home and will continue at 5:00pm. at the Church with family present starting at 6:00 pm. There will be a visitation Saturday 8:00. am. until Mass time at St. Joseph’s Retirement Community. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Endowment. Leo was born February 3, 1914 at St. Charles to Charles and Dora Schiferl Kaup. He attended St. Anthony Catholic School. On May 3, 1938, Leo married Martha Ortmeier at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church at St. Charles. The couple farmed south east of West Point, moving into West Point in 1953. There, Leo worked on the Hespe construction crew, building the Guardian Angels Gym and Cafeteria, and later working as the Guardian Angels custodian. Leo was a painter for Kindschuh Painting, and worked for Harry Knobbe Feed Yards before his mid 1980’s retirement. Leo was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He was an avid reader, mostly mysteries and westerns. He enjoyed cards and puzzles. Leo was proud of being over 50 years sober with AA. Survivors include his wife Martha, of West Point, daughter Leona (Paul) Meister of Fremont, sons Ed (Lynette), Gary (Connie), Jerome (Marguerite) and Allen (Mary) all of West Point, daughter in law Clarice Kaup of Omaha, brother Leonard Kaup of West Point, 18 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a son Kenneth, sisters Gertrude Meister, Agnes Potter, Verona Kaup and Angela Riggs, brothers Alfonse and Vincent Kaup.
