Leander Joseph Kaup, 71, of West Point, died February 21, 2005 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Reverend Mark McKercher as celebrant. Public Wake with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be 7:00 pm. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial with Military Honors will be at St. Aloysius Cemetery at Aloys. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 3:00 pm. Wednesday at Stokely Funeral Home and then continue at the Church. Memorials may be made to St. Aloysius Cemetery or the American Cancer Society. Those wishing to leave on line condolences may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Leander was born May 29, 1934 at Dodge, to Henry and Ella Heimann Kaup. He grew up north of Dodge and attended St. Aloysius Catholic School. He served in the US Army as a military police, stationed in Germany, from February, 1956 till October, 1957. He continued with the Army Reserve. On December 28, 1957, he married Patricia Sellhorst at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Olean. The couple farmed north east of Aloys, moving into West Point in 1998. They owned and operated Snyder Poultry Processing from 1997 until 2004. Leander was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He had served on the Elkhorn Township Board. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, hunting, playing cards, especially Sheep head and Poker. Survivors include his wife, Pat, of West Point, daughters; Terri (Tom) Reichlinger of West Point, Tami (Ron) Stieren of Lake Wood, Colorado, Tina (David) Kassmeier of Norfolk, sons; Tom, Todd (JoAnn) Tracy (Kelly), troy, Thad, Tony, Trent (Kim) and Travis (Melissa) all of West Point, sisters Marjorie Hagedorn of West Point and Alice Hegemann of Fremont, sister-in-law Doris Kaup of Beemer, grandchildren Tiffiney Kaup, Raven Gerths, Brittany Kaup, Jacob, Lucas and Kayla Reichlinger, Joshua Kaup, Matthew and Alexandra Stieren, Nathen Kaup, Sidney and Anna Kassmeier, Eric and Jared Scherer, Trisha and Zachary Kaup, Samantha Kaup, Isabelle Kaup, Ty and Abby Kaup, great grandchildren Riley Surman, Brock Beed, and Connor Gerths. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Clarence and brother in law Frank Hagedorn.
