Lawrence William Lurz, 79, of Beemer, died Saturday September 3, 2011 at Pender Community Hospital. Services will be 10:00 am Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Beemer with Reverend Scott Evans officiating. Graveside services with Military Honors at 4:30 pm Tuesday at Harmony Cemetery north of Valentine. Visitation 3:00 pmto 8:00 pm Monday, with family receiving friends 5:00 pm. until 7:00 p. M at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point. Memorials may be made to Wimmer Rehabilitation Center at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point or Lung Research. Stokely Funeral Home West Point is in charge of arrangements. Lawrence was born April 23, 1932, in Mission, SD, to Eustis and Inez (Brown) Lurz and grew up North of Crookston and attended Lutheran School in Minnesota. Lawrence graduated valedictorian of Crookston High School in 1950. Lawrence joined the Army and served from 1953;1955. He married Judy Andrews. The couple lived in Valentine where Lawrence ran Heart City Propane and was an electrician for Lurz Construction. Following his divorce in 1985, Lawrence moved to Beemer. On March 9, 1986 Lawrence married Arline Morris Mahler at the Methodist Church in Beemer. In Beemer Lawrence worked for Ortmeier Construction and maintenance at Colonial Haven. Lawrence was a member of the Beemer United Methodist Church, beemer American Legion, V. F. W. in Norfolk. He enjoyed camping and fishing, his dogs, but most importantly his family and especially his grandkids. Lawrence is survived by his wife Arline of Beemer, sons Darrell (Marta) of Valentine, and Dan of Beemer; daughters Susan Neal (Lewis Herbaugh) of Thedford, Sandy Doyle of Seward, Kelly Mahler of Omaha and Kristy (Joe) Davis of San Antonio, TX, 13 grandchildren, brothers LeRoy, Leonard, Raymond and David Lurz, sisters Delores Hamling, Annie, Louise McClean and Dorothy Gallino. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lloyd and Donald Lurz.
