Lavaine Doerneman, 95, of West Point, died Friday, March 22, 2024 at Fremont Methodist Health.  Funeral Mass will be 10:00am on Wednesday, March 27 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church at Aloys with Rev. James Weeder as celebrant.  Burial will be at St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery with lunch following at Native 32 Winery.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00pm at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point.  Memorials may be made to St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery.  Arrangements by Stokely Funeral Home.

Lavaine Dorothy Uher was born on October 27, 1928 to Joseph and Blanche (Dostal) Uher on the family farm near Howells.  She attended St. John Nepomucene Catholic School to the 8th grade then worked at Vesely’s Grocery Store in Howells.  On May 4, 1949, Lavaine married Wilbur Doerneman at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Howells. Together, they embarked on a farming life near Aloys, where Lavaine dedicated herself to supporting her husband and raising their family. In August of 2021, at the age of 93, she transitioned to the nursing home.

Lavaine’s green thumb and passion for baking were well-known. Her vegetable garden yielded bountiful harvests, providing fresh produce for her family. Her skill in the kitchen was unmatched, and her delicious baked goods were eagerly anticipated by all who were fortunate enough to sample them.  She delighted in listening to polka music and playing cards.  A devoted listener of Kitchen Klatter, Lavaine found inspiration in the stories and recipes shared on the radio program.  She will be remembered for always lending a helping hand to anyone.

Lavaine is survived by her children, Duane of Wisner, Ronnie of West Point, Sharon “Sherry” Shaffer of Lincoln, Denise Humlicek of Lincoln, Jo (Audry Brungardt) of Newton, KS, Keith (Kim) of West Point, and Dale of West Point; grandchildren, Lisa Doerneman, Jennifer Doerneman, Diana (Brian Knight) Doerneman, Frank (Danielle) Doerneman, Amy (Jeff) Fredrick, Nicole (Tyler) Shaffer-Bailey, Laura (Justin) Schuetze, and Luke (Emily) Doerneman; 17 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.  She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilbur in 1996; daughter-in-law, Ladeta Doerneman; sons-in-law, Bernie Humlicek and Butch Shaffer; and sisters, Arlene Schultz, Delores Adams, and Erma Dinslage.
