Laura Christina Guenther, 89, of West Point, died January 7, 2006 at St. Joseph’s Retirement Community in West Point. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Reverend Frank Lordemann as celebrant. Guild and Christian Mother’s Rosary will be 1:30 pm. Monday with Public Wake Services 7:00 pm. Monday both at Stokely Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Church or Guardian Angels Endowment. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 8:00 pm. Monday at the Funeral Home. Those wishing to leave on line condolences may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com.Laura was born May 15, 1916 on the family farm north of Dodge to Anton and Mary Rolf Stieren. She attended District #41 Country School and received her religious education at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dodge. A young Laura worked as a hired girl for families with new babies. On February 14, 1944 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point she married John Guenther, Jr. The couple farmed 4 miles west of West Point where Laura tended a large garden and raised chickens. During the 1970’s, Laura worked in the laundry department at the West Point Living Center. They retired to West Point in the early 1990’s and Laura moved to St. Joseph’s in October of 2002. Laura was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Guild and Christian Mothers. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting. Laura was a quiet, humble person that took pride in her family and religion. Survivors include her daughters Mary Ann Guenther and Doris Raasch both of Grand Island, Jeanette (Jack) Kindschuh of West Point, sons Gerald of Scribner and Ron (Teresa) of Lincoln, sisters Eleanor Spenner and Beatrice (Mac) Seaman both of Beemer, grandchildren Kari Nosal, Dan Kindschuh, Jon Raasch, David, Tim and Mary Guenther, great grandchildren Brooklyn Kindschuh and Emma Nosal. She is preceded in death by her husband John, Jr., in May of 1994, sister Minnie Kuehler, brothers Edward, Hilbert and Gerhart Stieren.
