Laura M. Engelbart, 88 of West Point died Tuesday August 11, 2009 at Lancaster Manor in Lincoln. Funeral Services will be 10:30 Saturday at Grace Lutheran in West Point with Reverend Christian Meier officiating. Burial will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Pender. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 8:00 pm. Friday with family receiving friends 5:00 until 7:00 pm. at Stokely Funeral Home. Those wishing to leave on line condolences may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Laura was born May 3, 1921 at Pender Charles and Bertha Wennekamp Bentjen. She attended Sunny Ridge Country School thru the 8th grade. In the early years Laura worked at the defense plant in Sioux City and Cold Storage in West Point. On August 6, 1944 she married Marvin Engelbart at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church at Pender. The couple lived a brief time in Fayetteville, North Carolina and then settled in West Point where they worked together in the painting business. Laura was a member of Grace Lutheran Church since April 1, 1945, Ladies Aid, Faith Circle, taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed her gardening. Marvin and Laura were avid dancers and like to square dance. Laura spent lots of hours watching her children and grandchildren in sports and other activities. Survivors include her sons Rod (Marcia) Engelbart of Lincoln, Rick (Trish) Engelbart of West Point, daughter Jane (James) McElroy of Fremont, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, sister Martha Merry of Pender and brother Melvin Bentjen of California. She is preceded in death by her husband Marvin on July 18, 1995, grandson Brian McElroy, sisters Matilda Parker and Ella Smith, brothers Otto and Elmer Bentjen.
