LaMae Johnson, 92, of Oakland, died Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Oakland Heights Nursing Home. Funeral Service will be Friday, October 28 at 10:30am at Trinity Church with Pastor Les Parmenter as officiant. Burial will be at West Side Cemetery with lunch following at the church. Visitation will be Thursday from 12:00pm to 7:00pm with family receiving friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Stokely Funeral Home. Memorials will be designated by the family at a later date. LaMae Jacobson Johnson was born to Harry and Mabel Olson Jacobson on a farm in rural Oakland on December 20, 1923. She was baptized and confirmed at West Side Methodist Church. LaMae attended Morningside School and graduated from Oakland High School in 1941. On January 28, 1946, she married Linder Johnson Jr. at West Side and to this union two children were born, Gene and Merna. LaMae was an active farm wife, caring for animals, tending her garden and flowers, and taking pride in their well-kept farm place. She also enjoyed playing cards, square dancing, baking, and participating in community events. The coffee pot was always on to welcome friends and neighbors. She was active in Cuming County 4-H, serving as club leader for many years. Later, LaMae served as fair superintendent in the open class foods department for over 25 years. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary, several bridge clubs, and Past County Extension Chairwomen. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. LaMae was a lifelong member of West Side Church until its closing in 1997. She then joined Trinity Church in West Point, and there too, was an active member. LaMae is survived by her daughter, Merna (Arlyn) Pierce and daughter-in-law Carole Johnson, both of West Point; 6 grandchildren, Aaron Pierce of Norfolk, Angie (Chris) Kuester of Beemer, Brian (Beckie) Pierce of West Point, Clint (Erin) Johnson of Fort Calhoun, Eric (Mindy) Johnson of Lincoln, and Rachel (Adam) Petersen of Lincoln; 16 great grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Harold Johnson of Fremont. LaMae is preceded in death by her husband, Linder, in 1981; son, Gene, in 2014; sister, Janice Hultquist, in 1970; brother, Averill Jacobsen, in 1985; and infant brother, Malvern.
